Let's Talk About Food - what do you know about our local food system?

The recent epidemic has highlighted our vulnerability when it comes to relying on essential supplies from out of town.  

The science is telling us we need to stop creating the massive carbon emissions created by exporting and importing the same food in and out of countries just so that companies can make a profit in the global market.

We know that food grown in the country is shipped off to Melbourne to be branded and packaged then returned to be sold in the supermarket down the road. 

We also know that a lot has been happening to stop the madness! Supporting local growers at the farm gate and  shopping at community farmers markets seems the sensible thing to do. 

Join Will Dalgleish, the new chair of the Bendigo Regional Food Alliance and Tania Rusbridge from The Old Church on the Hill Community Pantry in  a chat about what we need to do to ensure a healthy, secure supply of food that is locally grown, strengthens our local economy and reduces carbon emissions!

The Bendigo Regional Food Alliance aims to create a healthy, sustainable, local food system within the region. We are a group of local food producers and growers, distributors, retailers, food recovery, local government, social entrepreneurs, food recovery and waste reduction and interested community members who share the vision of supporting our local food system.

The Old Church on The Hill Community Pantry is a community led initiative to make local, ethical and sustainable options more available and to make the journey of changing our consumer habits into a pretty fun, welcoming and inspiring ride.
