Bendigo for Butterflies
The Australian Conservation Foundation invites families of all ages to a special event to learn about the rare and seriously endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly. Bendigo hosts several colonies of this little butterfly and we want people to learn about it in order to protect it.

About the event
The event is in 3 parts: Firstly, we will meet at the playspace for activities for adults and kids, such as working on our "Community for Creatures" banner, postcards to the pollies, kids craft, and information talks from Mark Hall and other local specialists re the butterfly.
We will provide a cuppa and simple afternoon tea, but please let us know if you are coming by RSVP:

Then, Friends of Solomon Gully Nature Reserve will lead a guided walk to a nearby site of the butterfly, at 4:30pm. It is essential to book for this walk. It is free, but please book everyone in your group in at

We are also promoting the butterfly through a mini art "competition" in primary schools and kindergartens close to the known sites of the butterfly. (Spring Gully, Quarry Hill, Flora Hill.) Children's art work will be on display at Quarry Hill Larder from 6th of November, and there will be 3 book voucher awards available for participants.
Please note, there are two RSVPs that need to be made; one for the Playspace event, and one for the guided walk. Everything is free!
